MAKING SENSE OF THE USA WORKPLACE - A Guide For New Americans
Some of the most important information you need to succeed isn't written down- it's a subtext understood by insiders. Deciphering this code can make the difference between getting by and getting ahead. Ideals and reality may collide around alcohol, socializing, modesty standards and holidays. HR can help you navigate some gaps- unless you cross an invisible corporate line. Co-presented with Dee Knapp, J.D., owner of Accord & Collaboration.

ISLAM 101 & 102 for Leaders & Managers
This seminar covers the basics of Islam- the fastest growing religion in the world. Muslim Americans are diverse and increasingly mainstream. Led by me (not Muslim), and a practicing Muslim, this highly informative seminar welcomes questions you'd be afraid to ask elsewhere, and empowers you to learn more on your own.

RAMADAN FOR LEADERS & MANAGERS
Ramadan deeply impacts employees, communities, and organizations. A savvy leader knows enough about it to  anticipate communication and logistical challenges that may arise around this important spiritual event. In this training, we go beyond Ramadan basics, to explore how American Muslim groups observe differently, both within the U.S.A. and compared to other countries. We invite you to ask detailed questions about what to expect and why. It's presented by me, (not Muslim), and a practicing American Muslim.

TATTOOS & TA-TAS AT WORK- A Dress Policy for Every Body
Office-wide dress codes are no laughing matter when your employees span many faiths, cultures, and generations. Showing too much skin, (or not  enough), and other visible expressions outside the norm can impact success at work. If ignored, it can result in tension, low performance, lost talent or lawsuits. With Dee Knapp, J.D., owner of Accord & Collaboration.

DIFFERENTLY EMPOWERED- Working With Gender-Separated Groups
The Puget Sound is home to growing numbers of immigrants from more traditional cultures and religions. Many New Americans have modesty rules, gender expectations and customs that are at odds with mainstream American culture. How do you find common ground and respectfully work around different values?

For Traditional & New Americans

ZEN COWBOY- East/West Differences at Work
The Northwest's Asian-American communities are highly diverse, well-established, and growing. Generally speaking, while they share the mainstream U.S. emphasis on patriarchy, "Asian" values are similar to other non-dominant groups in valuing collectivism over individualism. However, generational differences around assimilation and acculturation also influence communication. This training explores how generational differences around assimilation and acculturation might influence interpersonal and organizational communication.

Northwest Culture

NW Too Casual?

The Northwest is dominated by the tech sector, millennial values, and a laid-back business attitude. On-site dog care is more sought after than child care. Northwest Nice, our tendency to avoid direct conflict, can make it hard to learn about others. Seattle Freeze can further contribute to a sense that outsiders and newcomers aren't unwelcome. At worst, their lack of knowledge about and experience with religion can result in religious intolerance and entitlement. This can be a real handicap in today's multicultural marketplace. How do you move from obnoxious and alienating to curious and effective?

Stop Rude Atheist Syndrom (R.U.D.)

Intolerance exists- even in the "politically correct" Northwest. According to Pew research, 38% of Americans ages 18-29 are atheists- and the Northwest has the nation's highest 'unchurched' population. At best, you or your staff may struggle to understand the shared values that motivate religious and   traditional employees or co-workersand. At worst, you may be driving away customers or employees who feel unwelcome or judged. This training offers tips to keep your mind open.
