I provided learning design and cultural inclusion consulting for Ms. Big Shot is an entrepreneur business start up and development program. The client's target market is women, ages 35-65. Deliverables included: content editing of curricula, providing graphics templates for online courses, and creating tracks to support different learning styles. 

JUN

Betsy Jordyn Consultant Marketing Agency, in Florida, asked me to facilitate an online meeting with a dozen members. Management's goal was bringing the community together to: 1) support BIPOC colleagues and 2) explore the organizations and individual members' roles and ethical obligations as agents of change working to reduce systemic racism and inequalities for clients.

MAY

I was appointed to the Business Diversity Advisory Group (BDAG) of the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services / DES.  BDAG is made up of small, minority-, women-, and veteran-owned businesses, as well as non-profits for the blind, that serve in an advisory capacity to the agency's contracts and procurement division.
San Francisco-based Alcance Media Group, asked me to update and share an article on "Ramadan for Business Owners". It was co-written with the late Catherine England, a Zena Affiliate, educator, and friend. Read it here.

APR

MAR– I designed and delivered a training entitled, "Working with Traditional Communities" for 50 Seattle community volunteers. They're traveling to Michigan in May as part of a voter education program. Attendees wanted knowledge and skills to work respectfully and confidently with American Muslim populations. Learn more
FEB– I attended the Washington Economic Development Alliance's winter conference in Olympia. WEDA brings together economic developers from communities, counties, regions, ports, tribes, the state and private organizations to pursue mutual goals. Critical private players included banks, utilities, corporations, foundations and service firms.
JAN– I'm working with The Agape House for young women again this year. I'll review our original Communications plan to chart progress and future needs, create PR materials to capitalize on free media coverage, and develop a new strategic plan to solidify partnerships with interested funders. 

2019 ​Projects

DEC– Ron Higgs, owner of Wolf Management Solutions, joined me in hosting the first Washington event for colleagues interested in learning more about Consultant Allies. Thanks to the Lake City branch of Elliott Bay Brewery for being great hosts and always supporting local, small businesses.
NOV– Zena Consulting was federally certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE).
OCT– I completed a 40-hour Basic Facilitative Mediation Training (BMT), at the Skagit County Dispute Resolution Center, in Mt. Vernon, Washington.
SEP– What Does Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Mean to Small, Rural & Coastal Social Profits?" is a training seminar I've designed and will present on the 13th, at Gray's Harbor College, in Aberdeen. Hosted by the Nonprofit Leaders Conference for Coastal and SW Washington. Register or learn more here.
Diversity Training by Lee Mozena, for Canterbury Shores, in Madison Park. This members-only event is closed. 
AUG– I developed and co-authored a proposal with Davida Ingram, of Seattle Public Library, for UNEA. We were awarded $10,000 to purchase media equipment for a youth-led, Native/Indigenous community-based program focused on cultural preservation. This is UNEA's first 4 Culture grant, and it builds on an SPL partnership from 2018.
JUL– I provided local promotion for a book release party for Dr. Joy Wiggins, co-author of "From Sabotage to Support: A New Vision for Feminist Solidarity in the Workplace, at Elliot Bay Books, on Capitol Hill, 7/29. This book frames sabotage as a historical inheritance and contextualizes the problem now. It provides practical solutions that women can start using in the workplace right away, regardless of their position.
JUN– I was accepted into Consultant Allies. This national network of OD, Change Management, HR, Merger & Acquisition professionals helps small, collaborative, entrepreneurial professionals grow. It's great to have more smart people at my fingertips.
MAY– I continue to work with UNEA (Urban Native Education Alliance). In addition to on-going grant managing, we wrote a 4 Culture equipment grant to help teens tell their stories, and created a new partnership by connecting Bastyr University's graduate student volunteer program with the client.
APR– I attended the 5X Entrepreneur Series, funded by Port of Seattle, Kenmore Business Incubator, and Corey Hansen, author of Hot 100 Business. This 6-week long class helps small business accelerate profit and create sustainable growth.
MAR– I wrote a grant for BSK's Stopping the Prison to School Pipeline to help young women of color who are at risk for being trafficked or homelessness after foster care services end. The clients are directors of different social profits. We worked to combine their expertise.with them to increase their capacity by creating a partnership that combines their talents and will expand services from Seattle to the east side.
FEB– Hired to work on an Advisory Committee to PSESD  (Puget Sound Educational School District)  Strategy, Evaluation and Learning team is helping King County’s Best Starts for Kids (BSK) School Partnership team understand how school-based partnerships are developing and how multiple BSK investments in a school influence the experiences of students. We want to help organizations and schools build more effective partnerships. We want to know how partnerships form, how different organizations are connected (or not connected) to each other, what works, and what doesn’t work.
JAN– I volunteered to work with Tabor's Economic Development Committee. Tabor is an association fo entrepreneurs and business advocates committed to economic power, educational excellence, and social equity for African Americans and the community at large. 

2018 ​Projects

DEC– I was completed classwork to obtain a Leadership Eastside Adaptive Community Leadership certificate from Saybrook University in Bellevue, Washington.

Also this month, I helped to promote and was a vendor at, "Arabian Knights", at the Edmonds Center for the Arts. Co-produced by Michaela Corning, this ladies-only community event featured music, dance performances, a runway fashion show, grand bazaar, henna and Arabic food.

NOV– I  began managing two King County's Best Start for Kids / BSK grants for UNEA.. This contract includes coordinating with staff to deliver quarterly and annual reports to foundations and agencies; and designing systems or materials as needed to collect data. All efforts must align with Native American cultural norms.

OCT– I provided funding research, grant calendars, and proposals for Altruist Partners' clients. Additionally, Lee evaluated clients' grant preparedness. 

SEP– I teamed up with Block Beta Marketing to deliver marketing services to Accelbi, a data management firm in Redmond. This project included strategic planning and re-writing website collateral.

AUG– I wrote a second grant for to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Seattle Black Panthers. This grant was for a youth-led outdoor mural project.

JUL– Seattle Black Panthers / Power to the People asked me to work on partnership development, and grant-writing for their 50 year celebration, funded by City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods. An exploratory community health grant was funded by the Wyman Family Youth Trust and Carolyn Downs Community Health Clinic to engage Central District African American teens. 

MAY– Writing about Equity & Confidence and Credibility: I designed and presented this sold-out event with Chanya Allen. Expert guests included: Olivia Littles, NW African American Art Museum, Rashad Morris, Bullitt Foundation, Alice Park United Way King County, and Virginia Wyman, of the Wyman Family Trust.

I also participated in the NW Minority Business Expo, sponsored by Tabor 100 and Vulcan.

APR– Global Social Business Partners/GSBP asked us write a grant and marketing collateral for the first Youth Rising Social Business Entrepreneur Summit at Bellevue College.

MAR– Urban Native Education Alliance/UNEA asked us back to assess staff and team performance. We conducted a site evaluation and made recommendations that aligned with Native cultural norms around resolving conflict, working with young adult staff and volunteer board members. 

FEB– Pacific Communications Consultants hired me to write and edit a WSDOT project. 

JAN– WA Dept. of Enterprise Services asked me to edit copy for two different projects for the Governors Mansion.

2017 ​Projects

DEC– We wrote and were awarded a $15,000 grant by the Seattle Foundation for Nsanga Corporation. The funds will be used to helped Seattle area refugees and immigrants access social services in several languages.

NOV– We developed a volunteer manual for the Urban Native Education Alliance (UNEA).

OCT– We presented a Caring Economy training at Black Dot in Seattle in preparation for the GSBP's Youth Rising Social Business Entrepreneur Summit happening in April 2018.

SEP– Skillspire hired us to write a grant to fund a youth education and training program.

AUG– Paragon Transport asked us to improve their website copy.

JUL– Friendship Circle WA asked us to write a grant for a religious education program designed to help young Jewish adults connect to their faith and communities. 

JUN– Friendship Circle WA asked us to write a grant for their program that matches special needs teens with fully-abled peers to learn life skills.

We were asked to produce a second ​Malikah Festival for the City of Redmond's Arts & Culture Commission.  See the Press response or watch a video produced by Redmond teens. See 2017 Photos.

2016 ​Projects

OCT– We developed the ​Malikah Festival to close gaps between local governments and under-served community groups. Funded by Redmond's Arts & Culture Commission, it was the first ever modest fashion show in for a mixed gender audience west of the Rocky mountains.
